All of us at one time or another had to face the ugly subject of fear in our lives. After all some fear is healthy. Like not wanting to walk off a ten-story building, because of the fear of death.

Yet some are unwarranted, like public speaking. That’s why I want to talk to you today about how to eliminate fear from your mind.

Where does fear come from? According to Psychology Today, researchers found that the individual experiences was the strongest predictor of fears and phobias.

How To Overcome Fear

How To Overcome Fear

One of my favorite quotes is a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson he said, “Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain.” And I have used that quote to overcome fears in my life.

I think each of us at one time or another has had to deal with the fear of public speaking. I remember there was a time when I was deathly afraid to speak in public.

And not just getting up before a crowd but in company meetings. I would know the answer to a question but was just too afraid to speak up.

I would always second guess myself. I was afraid of being laughed at or afraid of being wrong even though I knew I was right. It made no sense.

My life was consumed with fear. I remember coming home one day sitting on the couch and tears just started to stream down by face. I knew I couldn’t go on living my life in fear.

Thus, I began to research fear. And in my research, I came across that quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson and it changed my life.

That night, I vowed to speak up at least once in the next company meeting. And wouldn’t you know it there was a company meeting that very next day.

As we gathered, I was shaking like a leaf on the inside and I might have been shaking on the outside as well. During the meeting the boss asked a question.

There was silence. I knew the answer here was my shot. I slowly raised my hand to let the boss know I knew the answer. I started to speak but my voice came out as a whisper.

The boss asked me to repeat what I said a little louder. I cleared my throat and raised my voice a bit and repeated my answer.

How To Overcome Fear

And guess what, nobody laughed. Nobody made fun of me. And most of all I was right.

To you that may seem like nothing, but to me at the time I felt like I had just won 1st
place in a marathon.

As time went on, I began to speak freely in company meetings. I began to speak before crowds.

Matter of fact I even joined the public speaking club Toast Masters to try to learn how to speak better before a group. Now I no longer have the fear of public speaking.

So, one way to overcome fear is just to do what you fear.

What The Bible Teaches About Fear

What The Bible Teaches About Fear

Though this is not a post on Christianity I also learned some things about fear from the Bible. And as a Christian these verses have helped me overcome a lot of fears in my life as well.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • Psalm 27: 1 (NKJV) The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Psalm 118:6 (NKJV) The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
  • 2nd Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

No fear

As a Christian we are taught to be bold in Christ and give all our cares to GOD. We would love to hear what verses get you through life no matter what faith. I know we are not all Christians.

And some may not even believe in GOD, but leave your favorite quote. Whatever helps you get through please leave it in the comment section below.

We are all on the same journey just trying to make it through this life successfully.

Fear of Failure & Success

Fear of Failure & Success

The limits that most people set upon themselves are self-imposed. The capacity for greatness dwells within all of us. But like a miner searching for gold you must dig and sift through things to brings those nuggets to the surface.

Yet most people even though they have the capacity to build a successful online business won’t even try because they fear failure. Or fear to many demands will be placed on them if they are successful.

But if people really think about their lives, they know that failure is a part of life. When you were learning to walk as a baby you took a few steps and you fell down.

You didn’t stay there you got up took a few more steps and fell down again. But you didn’t stop until you mastered walking and then running.

Life is just like that we try we fail we try again and fail again until we master what we are going after.

learning to walk as a baby

There is no one in life who has accomplished something great that didn’t fail great. The things is that person didn’t give up because of the fear of failing.

Believe you can become a successful affiliate marketer in spite of your circumstances. It takes discipline to face your fears. Don’t accept weakness.

Maybe you would like to get started in affiliate marketing but don’t know how to start or where to start. Long as you are willing to try that is half the battle.

Open your mind so you can learn. Do stuff you’ve never done before. Your comfort zone must be disturbed.

You will be what you decide to be.

More Ways To Overcome Fear

Where most people go wrong is that they have a tendency to cling to their fears and it becomes a part of them. And they soon find that they a problem moving forward in life because they keep looking back.

The one thing I know for certain is that we have o face our fears. You must stare fear dead in the face and say to fear, “ Fear I will overcome you.” “Fear you will no longer control my life.”

How to eliminate fear from your mind:

  • Identify them:
What exactly are you afraid of. When you identify something, you can begin to know it. And when you begin to know something it can become less scary.
  • Put them down on paper: You can look at them and study them. Find out where these fears are coming from.
  • Move into action: Face them and move against them. And they will become weaker until they cease to exist.
  • Change your perspective: Change the way you look at things. Don’t focus on the negative.
  • Understand fear: You will have fears, but just don’t let fear have you. Put it in its proper place. Courage is not the absence of fear, but doing what needs to be done in spite of fear.
  • Question your fears: How are they able to make you act they way you do? What can you do to stop those debilitating actions?

More Ways To Overcome Fear

These are just a few can you think of others? Comment below.

In summing up we all have fears, but it how you handle those fears that’s what’s important. If you believe in something strongly enough you will do it in spite of fear.

Overcome fear with action. Let this not be you, “When it comes time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived.” Henry David Thoreau

There is no gain without pain. Struggle through the pain. You can be whatever you want to be if you have the guts.

How To Eliminate Fear From Your Mind

You’ve got to change the way you think it’s the whole determining factor of where you’ll go in life. You are where you are today because of your thoughts.

This is your time. Embrace it. Tell fear, “You are the master of your mind.”

Tell fear, “You will not hinder me and you will not stop me.”

Because nothing can stop you, but you! Be the director of your life.

Anything and everything is possible.

  1. This type of article is too extreme. You don’t have to eliminate fear from your mind, and its unhealthy to think that way. Fear is as much a part of us as any other emotion. It’s better to teach people to integrate fear. Fear is designed to help us avoid harm.
The ironic thing is, you are writing like this because you’re afraid of fear. You are making fear your enemy, when its not. Learn to accept fear instead, and write about that. Then you will be making a much more helpful blog.

    1. Hi Gerry

I’m sorry that you feel my article is too extreme. To walk around with a fearful mind is unhealthy. Like I said some fears are warranted
like the fear of step off a high rise building that kind of fear protects. But the fear of not being able to talk in a crowd needs to be eliminated
it only stunts a person’s growth.

I wrote about fear because I know a lot of people can relate. And if any fear hinders me in my life it is my enemy and I will eliminate it.
Life is to short to be walking around afraid. Thanks for sharing your opinion

      All the best

  2. Great article Eric,

I can totally relate to you as I too face fear every day and it’s overwhelming. I’ve tried many things in order to calm my self down and I ended up shutting down my emotions which I didn’t really like as I tend to not care what everyone says, even my loved ones. Thanks for the tips, I’ve written down what I must do to face my fears but man, that first step really is hard to take isn’t it? I kept on procrastinating

  3. That’s not a bad idea to join Toastmasters to eliminate your fear of public speaking. I did the same when I started university, as I knew I had to give presentations etc.

Apparently it’s quite common to have a fear of public speaking and some research showed that that’s because of back in the day when we had to decide whether or not that sabertooth tiger was going to eat us or not, people staring at you (as they do when you speak in front of them) meant that there was a good chance of them coming after you and killing you.

And our brains still remember that and still act the same way when examining situations to see whether there’s a threat or not. So that’s why you tend to get nervous when the focus is on you.

  4. I think it’s great you are covering such a topic on your website, and it’s very well-written! Fear is a crippling malady that keeps so many people from coming close to their true potential. I wish I had encouragement like yours when I was much younger. The Bible verses are spot on. As a Christian, I know there is no point in fearing things that have no power. I always think, “What is the worst reasonable scenario in this situation?” It’s never as bad as what my tremors and dread would have me believe. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

    1. Hi Cathy

You’re welcome. Life is funny we spend so much time in our younger years being dumb and afraid. It takes a lot of years of struggle and learning to where you even get to a place where you feel like you are making a difference. Some never get there because of fear. Thank you commenting.

  5. I like the way you mentioned you spoke the answer twice in the meeting and no one laughed at you which gave you more confidence to conquer your fear. I think most of us have something that we are scared, but it depends on how you think of it. I used to be scared of many things like talking to strangers or speaking for myself in the class or at work. However, I realized I need to try to do that thing first then evaluate where the fear comes from. Once I try, I become more confident afterward. It’s the same for our online business! If you scare you will fail in the end so you didn’t take the first step, you would never know, right?

  6. You really did a great job writing on such a topic that needs urgent attention. I find this article easy to relate with because i was once a victim of unnecessary fear, so worse that I couldn’t talk in public but one of the things that help me conquer that is I keep trying out those things am scared of and I became less fearful along line, hence I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, you have to keep doing that which you fear and surely the death of fear will come.

  7. As a child, there is no fear. No fear in walking, running and falling. Learning to ride a bicycle or swimming was easy peasy. 40 years later, if you were to ask me to take a ride or swim, my fear of falling and drowning is upon me. Believe me, I went through to that. Somehow, with the help of my children, I overcome the fear of going down under. Yes, I am swimming again. But not riding a bicycle. With encouraging words from your post, I have to do better. Thanks!

    1. Hi Sharon

You’re welcome. And I know what you mean. I glad to hear that with the help of your children you’re tackling your fears. Kids help mommy on the bike hahaha. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I like the quote of Ralph Waldo Emerson that you shared. Its very true. When we don’t take any action towards what we fear, we tend to hold on to it more. The biggest challenge for me personally, in things that I fear of doing, is always taking that first step forward. I also like using Nike’s slogan of “just do it,” it gets the point across well.

    1. Hi Mark

I think I’ve said Nike’s slogan to myself a few times and it does get the point across well. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Hmm, do that which you fear and the fear will go away. Thats a very big step to do and will in itself need a whole lot of courage. I believe that everyone at one stage in life must’ve faced one fear or the other even if it is to speak at the front of a crowd. This was me. Currently I have fear of heights. No, not what you’re thinking. I can perfectly stay at the tip of a skyscraper without a scream what I’m scared off is standing beneath it. Quite reversed right? I have other gears though but I try to help myself. Tha k your for his tips on how to deal with fear. Cheers!

    1. Hi Henderson

Wow! That’s a new one on me I’ve never heard of that fear. Have you figured out where it comes from? Thanks for sharing.

  10. Thank you for the inspiring article. I also have several fears (or phobia?) that I’m not sure how to overcome it. For example, I fear bugs, cockroaches, and the likes of them. Even just seeing one make me want to puke. Fortunately, there isn’t any problem if I see them in other form, such as cartoon. So, I think this isn’t a phobia. Do you have any suggestion to overcome fear to certain object like that? Thanks.

    1. Hi Alblue

You’re welcome. I’ll tell you what i did. I use to be scared of snakes. So I went to aquariums and looked at them and it was hard at first I was afraid even though I knew they couldn’t get me from behind the glass.

Soon I was able to touch the glass. During the summer I would always see a black snake or two. I was determined to pick one up. I put on some big work  gloves and went hunting.

One day I saw one. I grabbed it but I wasn’t close enough to the head when it turned and looked at me I dropped it and almost ran. But I told myself NO! I reached down this time and grabbed it closer to the head.

It was wiggling back and forth in my hands but I had it. Then I took one glove off then the other and I was holding it in my bare hands. I let that one go, but i eventually got another one and turned it into a pet.

One day my Dad caught me with it around my neck he a fit hahaha, but that’s another story.

Try being around them in a jar. I think the more you’re around them it will start to bother you less. Hope I was of help. Thanks for sharing.

  11. This is a splendid job and I can say that you have done utmost justice to the discourse here. It’s true that everyone has faces one fear or the other in life. I personally have the fear of failure and I don’t realise that everyone who succeeded today had to fail at one point in time. It’s also nice that you can quote the Bible here. I believe that it is out comforter in times of horror and fear. Nice one here and good tips too.

    1. Hi John

Thanks. I’m glad you appreciated the post. Yes failure is an inevitable part of success. You can’t have success without failure.

  12. Great story. I think that fear is something that we can learn from, and understand that its all a mental game in which it takes a lot of confidence and poise in order to defeat it. I myself have a lot of fears that I try to battle, but I know that with experiencing it head on while having a positive mindset, fear can be eliminated leaving you a stronger individual.

    1. Hi Joshua

Thanks. You’re right meeting fear head on and overcoming it will indeed make you a stronger person. Thanks for sharing.

  13. I guess most of us live with certain fears. It could he short time or long time, just like goals. As for me, I always fear in something I cannot share here. It is bound to happen and I fear that when it does, it’s gonna ruin my life in ways I can’t imagine. I don’t usually go for verses or quotation to inspire me to get over my fear. I find ways to stop it from happening but unfortumately, I can’t.

As for work, the fear of investing a lot and not getting something in return or ending up in a big flop makes me uneasy. There’s a saying in our country that business is a gamble. Either you give all to earn big or just invest a little and earn small. This is why I agree on your personal views about fear – we should conquer it ourselves, so it’ll die. Thanks a lot for sharing this inspirational vlog. It’s my guiding reflection for the day.

    1. Hi MissusB

You’re welcome. I noticed you said you don’t usually go to verses or quotations to help you get over your fears, but why not give them a try it can’t hurt. There is power in saying something uplifting to yourself over and over. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Fear is a terrible thing when it’s out of control. One of the portions in scripture that has always been useful to me concerning fear is that in which Peter’s experience is told, when he took away his eyes from the Lord: But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30 (NKJV).

Another portion that’s useful and is related to the passage above is: Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. Hebrews 12:2-3 (NKJV).

  15. I’ll start with this:  “Through every generation of the human race, there has been a constant war, a war with fear.  Those who have the courage to conquer it are made free and those who are conquered by it are made to suffer until they have they have the courage to defeat it, or death takes them.

Fear is not the reason for our failures or the absence of successes.  It’s really the lack of “Courage”.  As all of us are not raised in the same manner, sometimes we have to find courage on or own. I know various life experiences can have negative impacts on our minds, but we wield the power to change it. .

In my opinion, the biggest fear most people have is fear of change in any aspect of their lives and  to that I would repeat a verse from many “Anonymous” classes.  “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”. A lot of  power in that one.  And you know what, things change, everything changes, do not be fearful of the inevitable.

The second item we are fearful of is “Failure” as you spoke to.  The question we ask ourselves should never be “What if I fail?”.  What we should ask is if and when I fail, what steps will I take to not repeat the same mistake or what changes can I make to ensure I know I gave it my all. All we can do is put in 100%. There is no shame in failure, only wisdom.  Simply knowing it’s ok to fail is what I would consider step one.  It happens.

Lastly, Fear of Death.  I could go on forever about this but it really pertains to religion/faith.  All I can say here is don’t fear the inevitable.  Go’s back to the above quote accept the things I can not change.  I do find it interesting when reviewing statistical data that a majority of those without faith who are transitioning into death search for it at the end.  That is called FEAR, and the worst kind.  When our time comes, don’t we want to be at peace?

Live your life one day at a time, Nothing in this life on earth in guaranteed.  “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.  That is why the call it the present.”  Learn from your experiences and embrace it, then apply that knowledge you’ve gained to move forward.

    Applied to Affiliate Marketing:

You will get out what you put in.  Period.  I started my account over 3 years ago and I wasn’t ready.  I did book mark it and put it on my office wall at home for when I was.  I figured out very quickly after 3 days this would require real time, and real effort that I simply did not have so I put it to the side.

Real life example.  I day-trade.  Not for a living however it brings home around 30k a year the last 2 years.  My first 3 years of learning that skill cost be around 17k out of pocket.  I stuck with it.  I knew that I could make it happen once I learned the game, and yes, it’s a game.  It’s only a lotto if you don’t know the rules. Seek knowledge.  Knowledge is power and will always lead you to defeating your fears so long as YOU invest the time, and energy it takes.  Now that I think about it, remember the quote ” The only thing you have to fear is fear itself”?.  I disagree.  I would say the only thing you have to fear is yourself.  Own it.  What I’ve seen so far is there are plenty of people here willing to help each other out.

    Great content friend.  Great points.

P.S.  To all of you who have a friend/relative/acquaintance/neighbor or anyone that comes to you with a fear.  Do not reply, “Get over it”.  Understand their fear, offer them reassurance but not without guiding  them to a source of knowledge. FEAR is real.

    1. Hi Velma

Glad I could be of help. Yes fear can overtake you if you let it.
