That’s why many companies and brands run Facebook contests to increase engagement, attract new followers, and drive sales.

As you might expect, there’s a right and wrong way to run a Facebook contest. Here are 6 tips that can ensure your next contest is successful.

#1: Read Facebook’s Contest Guidelines

Facebook has guidelines that they expect brands to follow when they run a contest. These rules are subject to change, so instead of listing them here, we’re going to provide you with a link.

Make sure to read the guidelines before each contest you host. That way, if the rules have changed, you’ll be aware of it and you won’t run into trouble with Facebook.

Choose Your Prize Wisely

#2: Choose Your Prize Wisely

The prize you give away must be appealing to your followers. It must also be something you can afford to give away. One mistake that companies make is choosing a prize that appeals to everybody, not just their followers.

It might sound strange, but if you give away something universally appealing, like an American Express gift card, you might attract entrants who aren’t part of your target audience. In the long run, that won’t help you grow your business—so stick to something specific to your audience’s needs.

#3: Make Your Contest Easy to Enter

Your contest might require entrants to fill out a form or come up with a caption for a picture. Whatever type of contest you choose, it should be very easy to enter. Putting hurdles in place won’t help you get the results you want.

For example, if you include a form, add only those fields that you need. In most cases, that will just be a name and email address. You can ask for more, but keep in mind that adding additional fields may discourage some people from entering.

  6. Some great ideas here when it comes to running FaceBook contests. You have made some excellent points like the one where you should choose a prize that will attract you an audience specific to your niche.

Tracking your metrics is also important so that you know where your entrants came from and what sort of advertising worked best.

The hardest part of creating a contest will definitely be thinking of something creative to do within the competition.

  7. Wow! This is interesting. Being an newbie, I haven’t heard of Facebook contests. Social media is a little overwhelming to me at the moment Therefore I haven’t ventured into social media yet  but when I do I’ll consider this.  I will bookmark this post for the future. For now I’m focusing on posting quality content and getting it indexed.

  8. You know… that was very interesting. I have a niece who wins everything all the time. She’s really good at winning them and we(the family)have all asked her what her secret is. She never really tells us. But how to create a contest is good information. So many times on Facebook one sees fake contests, especially from many major celebrities who say they are giving money away for shares and likes. Good to know it’s against the rules so as not to get taken in by that sort of thing. This information helps to start a contest as well as prevent people from falling for the wrong thing.

I also think you’re right about the information necessary to enter the contest being limited to name and email is probably the best piece of advice you could give. The dangers inherent in disclosing personal information beyond that are widespread and carry the potential for financial ruin.

So thank you for the article…I found it to be very informative.
