As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed putting my thoughts down on paper. It is something that I look forward to just about every day. I must take a break at least one day a week, okay.
But what I soon realized was that I was just writing just for me. I had to ask myself, what is the purpose of writing? I came up with all kinds of answers; to make people laugh, to make people cry, to make people excited, to make people dream, to make people love, etc. The reason I write now is to make a impact in someone’s life.
You might be saying right now that is hard to do. Yet to make a impact in someone’s life doesn’t mean you have to write like Ghandi. Basically, it just means you write from a point of trying to help someone.
Like I said before that can mean many things. What matters is the context from which you are coming from. Thus, if you are reading this article you are probably a affiliate marketer or thinking about becoming one. That is the context in which I will write this article.
By now, you have probably heard something about content marketing. Just in case you haven’t let me give you a definition: content marketing is a form of marketing focused on creating, publishing, and distributing content for a targeted audience online.
As an affiliate marketer you should construct your content with the purpose of intent. If don’t understand the concept of intent I have posted a video below that will walk you through the entire process of creating content with intent.
How To Write Quality Content For – Your Website
When it comes to content marketing you must be writing quality content. That is relevant content that your target audience wants to read. For instance, if your target audience likes football you’re not going to be writing about basketball.
There are numerous ways to come up with quality content for your target audience:
- Research Competition
- Keyword Research
- Good Headlines
- Social Media
When it comes to content marketing you can’t be haphazard about it you have to have a strategy. According to i – Scoop there is more to a buying cycle than you might think. Their layering model of a typical buying cycle has 9 layers:
- Set Backs
- Status Quo
Your focus should be on who you are trying to reach. Also, you need to understand who you are trying to reach. The content that you create should be solving their problems.
The underlying goal of your content marketing is to grow your business. In order to do that you must attract paying customers.
Content Ideas To Diversify Your Website
How you showcase the content that you are creating for your website is going to take an assortment of ideas. There are millions of blog posts being created every day and a 1000’s of them will be targeting your same audience.
That being said you can’t get stuck in a rut showcasing content the same way over and over. Incidentally you may have found something that works. But with 55% of marketers and 81% of B2B using blog content according to HubSpot, diversity of how you showcase your content just makes sense.
In the online marketing world, there are many ways to showcase your content. HubSpot has put together numerous content ideas
to diversify your website as you can see from the graphic below.
Indeed, there are many of options available to online marketers to showcase their content creation. Just looking at the list above could be a bit overwhelming, but the idea is not to try to use all of them.
Do some research and learn about the benefits of each and experiment with a few that you think will benefit your target audience. Mad scientist time! You may find something that will increase traffic to your website.
Types Of Writing Styles
Your writing style will either draw or repel the audience you are trying to reach. Your writing should incorporate many facets; being personable, funny, friendly, persuasive, informative, honest and a little opinionated.
To be clear you are writing for your reader not yourself. When you know your target audience it’s easier to write for them. Also be original don’t try to copy anyone else.
The style in which you write should be free of grammatical errors. Now I know that you could miss a word here or there, but if your writing is always full of grammatical errors it’s time to have someone proof read your work before you post.
And your content should be easy to read. So, don’t jump around from one unrelated point to another in the same paragraph. Doing so you have the makings of a sloppy blog.
The style in which you write will undoubtedly be a reflection of your personality, your particular voice and the way you approach your audience. Whichever way you write it said to be characterized into one of these four styles.
The main purpose of descriptive writing is to describe. The descriptive writer will describe things in great detail.
- Narrative: The main purpose of narrative writing is to tell a story. The narrative writing style answers the question, “what happened?”, in the story.
The main purpose of expository writing is to explain. The expository writer will often tell you how to do something.
The main purpose of persuasive writing is to convince. The writings of a persuasive writer will have there reason, justifications, opinions and biases of the writer.
Where do you believe you fall as a writer? I would love to hear your comments below.
Intuitively I think most writers are probably a combination of the styles. Online marketers I think would have a hard time just writing in one style. Do you agree or disagree?
To sum it up the purpose of your writing should be to impact the reader in someway. Whether to inform or persuade it should be for the good of the reader.
The online space is changing all the time with new innovations and the influx of new marketers. The way you showcase your content on your website can either propel the success of your site or impede it.
Staying open to new content formats is a must. To be a good content marketer you must be willing to learn new things and innovate.
Now go and impact the world with your prose.
