You think you can be successful in affiliate marketing on your own? Becoming an affiliate marketer is easy. Being an affiliate marketer is hard.

Unfortunately, most people think you can put up a website and post a few ads with links on social media and the world will come. I’ll be rich by next month.

Here is the truth of the matter. You will still be dead broke a month from now and a year from now. Unless you find someone to train you.

You Cannot Do Affiliate Marketing On Your Own

According to Forbes 92% of small business owners agree that mentors have a direct impact on their growth and survival of their business.

Forbes went on to say that, “The early years of any business are therefore a crucial make-or-break period, and business mentors are vital to their success.”

“Any fool can know. The point is to understand.” – Albert Einstein

Of course, you can try it on your own (take it from me) I wouldn’t advise it. On one of my websites I wrote 34 articles and NOT ONE was ever indexed into Google.

indexed into Google

Although after being trained in the importance of SEO and keywords. I started another website and I’ve written 34 articles and 27 out of the 34 articles have been indexed into Google.

That is the difference of doing affiliate marketing on your own and not doing affiliate marketing on your own. The level of success is undeniable.

In fact, having a mentor, trainer or coach can take years off your learning curve. They can stop you from making some of the same mistakes they did early on.

You’ll have someone to keep you accountable. Someone to be your sounding board. They will help you see what you don’t see.

having a mentor

Then again you can post links and ads everywhere, but if people aren’t buying what you’re selling you’re screwed. It might just be the difference of a tweak here or a tweak there yet you’ll never know it without someone experienced in your corner to help you.

“Wisdom…. comes not from age, but from education and learning.” ― Anton Chekhov

While you may think you’ve created the most awesome sales funnel, landing page, solo ad, or website, etc. The bottom line is are you making sales?

are you making sales?

For this reason, let me help you understand why you need training. Here a few reasons:

  • It will improve personal and professional growth
  • Help keep you from making the same beginner mistakes
  • Offer encouragement to keep you on point
  • Able to receive constructive criticism
  • Knowledge in every  aspect of the business
  • Help you understand what it means to be successful
  • Push you to learn new skills
  • May have access to opportunities & tools you are not aware of
  • Can help you stay focused
  • Help you discover your hidden strengths
  • Will have a positive impact on your business over time
  • Plus, it’s FREE

  1. It is true that one  tree cannot make a forest and this is applicable to affiliate marketing too. There is need to be well groomed and grinded in the rudimnets of affiliate marketing and also expatiate the scope of the discourse of it. Meanwhile, as training is very important, having the proper support is much more important than that. The support can help to face the strongest of problems and difficulties. They will help to share knowledge on what works and what does not and so on. Simply great to see here. Thanks

    1. Hi Roland

Even in the educational system and that is why in affiliate marketing as well, there is a need for one to get a mentor and also a proper training. For me, I turned to wealthy affiliate and I got the training and drilling to get my business in tip top form. Like in thequote from Mohammed Ali, training might be hard but in the end, it all pays off. Nice article! Best regards!

  6. Truly, any fool can know , the basics in to understand. Beeing an affiliate both simple and can be difficult if you don’t do what is expected of you. Generally, there are quite a number of failed business around becaue these business owners have failed to do the needful which involves research amd proper training to gain the tenets of that business they are in. Affiliate marketing is one you news to be well grounded in before jumping into it.

  7. How well you grow in business depends on how well you have gained knowledge about that business. Aggilate marketing is one that anyone can just go into without a full learning process of it. We all want to take the easier part to success , but truly there isnt anyone to it. It sad seeing people try taking affiliate marketing without training. There are so many online site to learn affiliate marketing for aa very cheap price. I hope they learn. Best regards

    1. Hi Bella

Yes I believe whatever we endeavor to pursue training is an essential part of the process. I’ve not heard of people who learn strickly through osmosis. I hope they learn as well. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I’m not sure I agree with your comment about not being able to do this by yourself.  I think there are some who are able to do this. Success is, however, usually a good while down the road.

I have taught myself to do lots of things, and find the challenge of an online business a bit daunting.  Then there are different kinds of success.   I know that money is a good measurement.  Also, satisfaction with what you are doing is important.

If I take up golf at this stage of my life I would need a lengthy course of lessons from a good instructor.  So it stands to reason that having help learning to work an online business is a good start for me. There just isn’t enough time for the trial and error approach.

So, maybe your suggestions for making the whole thing easier and faster is sinking in for me.  After this rambling statement, where is a good starting place?

    1. Hi Sami

The statement wasn’t so much made like no one couldn’t do it, but why when you could get help and reach your goals quicker. Like I said I said in the post I started off on my own, but once I got help with my affiliate marketing success came quicker.

Having someone in your corner who has been there done that will help you immensely. A good starting place that I would recommend to anyone thinking of getting into affiliate marketing or even someone who has been doing  it, but as has not had the success they seek is Wealthy Affiliate. Thanks for commenting.

  9. I wish I had seen this article about two years ago.  Affiliate marketing seemed so attractive to me, but I began without much direction and little training.  The list of why training is necessary for this internet business was very enlightening. The business model of affiliate marketing is good.  I find that receiving a commission as an affiliate instead of purchasing and maintaining inventory and then being responsible for shipping is a good model. After taking a long break, I am beginning again with affiliate marketing and taking this article to heart.  I am participating in a good training model, but certainly have taken your advice to sticking out the training.  Thanks for the article.

    1. Hi Anastaszja

You’re welcome. Yes I wish I had started of that way I’d be the better for it today. But as the old saying goes, “you live and learn.”Affiliate marketing is a great business model. You don’t have to stock any products. And when you sale something the company ships it. Many worries are taken off your plate. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I like this article a lot because of it’s sheer honesty.  It is absolutely true that we will learn a lot quicker with a mentor.  I can think of no better example than going to college.  I studied psychology a lot before college, but it wasn’t until I got into college, and started taking classes that I actually began learning psychology in a deeper level.

    1. Hi Jessie

Thank you for that glowing comment. I hope all my post come across the same way which is their intent. Yes having a mentor, coach, teacher what have you, will denfinately help you in the long run. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Thanks for this article. I had a really hard time for years trying to do affiliate marketing by myself but I finally embraced not only paying for some quality training but joining several communities and forums of fellow marketers. It has made all the difference in the world for me, it really has. I loved that quote from Muhammad Ali, makes me realise I am the same way. I kind of hate the training, and it used to make me quit, but this time I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and like Mr. Ali I would rather “suffer” now and be financially independent (a champion for life) down the road. I just need to work hard and never lose sight of the goal line. Thanks again, really inspirational post here.

  12. What you’ve said is very true especially for those who are brand-spankin new to this idea of “Affiliate Marketing”.  It may be the very first time they have heard this term but it has caught their interest and they want to know more and give it a try themselves.

With that in mind, getting the right training is paramount If one wants to be successful and WA certainly is the best.  There are many other training platforms out there but, NO ONE does it like WA, NO ONE has the technical support or community expertise that is available at WA.  And the cost is unbeatable as well.

The one thing I want to emphasize though is that no matter how good the training, or anything else, is on the WA platform, one still needs to do the work.  If they can’t be consistent and committed to the training process and building their website, (at least two articles/posts a week),  success is going to be a long way off.  Even having a good mentor is no guarantee of success.  It has to come from within.  There has to be a solid “Want To”.

Been there, trying to do better,

    Wayne

    1. HI Wayne

I appreciate your comment and make some very valid points. Indeed you have to do the work. That is why I like to give my audience a combination of know how and mindset training. It all starts in the mind and if you can get that right the rest will be a breeze. Thanks for sharing.

      Much Success

  13. It’s true that the right training is important to be able to create a profitable affiliate website. Too many people give up affiliate marketing because it sounded easier than it is when they first got started. It’s a shame, because affiliate marketing is one of the few genuine ways to make money online. Done correctly, it can be very lucrative.

  14. Just as anything really great cannot be achieved alone, affiliate marketing cannot be done alone. And it is also good to learn by mentoring instead of learning by experience. It saves a lot of wasted time and energy. I agree Wealthy Affiliate has the best community of experts. They are always ready to help you. The step by step training is very easy to understand and to follow. I am enjoying Wealthy Affiliate.

    1. Hi Juliet

I don’t know what the percentage is, but I know the number has to go dramaticly when you take on a mentor. Success is now much more a possiblity than when you didn’t have one. It’s happy to hear that you are thriving as an affiliate marketer and enjoying being in the Wealthy Afiliate community. Thanks for sharing.

      Much Success

  15. Very well said, Zaddy!

Affiliate marketing can’t be done alone for real. That was something I learnt through the hard way as well. I started out thinking yeah, is it not to just write articles and place products links within it, wow how so simple that is.

You would not believe what happened thereafter (well I guess you would believe it since you have been through the same thing).

I spent months working on my website without any clicks even though the articles were indexed in Google, and even when they are clicked on the rate at which the visitors bounce away was something else.

The mistake I was making was not engaging my audiences enough, I was not writing my topics in-depth, and providing them with the right values they were seeking.

But, after I found myself some good mentors and a well established and highly motivating learning platform (also Wealthy Affiliate), I have learnt just how important engaging my audiences are, and I have larnt how to go about it. Plus, I now put it in action.

Now, my visitors keep navigating my website for things they could consume after reading through an article, and they stay longer on it.

Affiliate marketing is simple but not so simple without the right and perfect guidance!

    1. Hi Tohin

Yes indeed having someone to guide you along the way in your affiliate marketing journey just makes good sense. Why go it alone if you don’t have too? That’s what I love about Wealthy Affiliate you have great training, great tools and great people. Thanks for sharing.

      Much Success

      Eric
